| Googlewash | Changing the perception of a term by manipulating the leading engine's (proprietary) search algorithm. Beautifully reported in The Register. Here's a pointer via my source, Risks Digest |
| Donor* | Pronounced "Donor
splat". A device that increases the supplies of organs for transplant. Generated by abstraction from "donor cycle", a term used by emergency room staff to refer to bicycles and motorcycles ridden by those without helmets, as in this letter to Ann Landers : "TEMPLE TEXAS: I'd like to thank that father in Lynbrook, N.Y., for telling his sons they don't need to wear helmets. This country is in desperate need of organ donors, and the young kids who don't wear helmets keep us supplied. Where I work, bicycles with riders who don't wear helmets are called "donorcycles." (December 2, 1998) Extends to donormobile (sports car), donorboard (skate, surf and snow), and donortool (outsized overpowered tools) and with a stretch (since immersion is bad for organ recovery) donorboat.
