Our Robots Meet the Press

We've been fortunate to have very good relations with journalists. The Lab's work has been featured in the following stories (more recent first):

  • Michelle Cook, "Students, robots pair up for timely lessons in ethics Class looks beyond Battlebots to tackle technology issues" ubcreports,  Vol. 47, No. 18. Nov. 15 2001. Errata: The draft version of Michelle's story that she was kind enough to send me correctly identified me as a "ethics professor". The printed (and, so far, web) versions incorrectly identify me as a "philosophy professor". Just to set the record straight, I left the Philosophy Dept. at UBC on 30 June 2001 to take up the newly endowed Mary and Maurice Young Professorship of Applied Ethics in the Centre for Applied Ethics at UBC on 1 July 2001. So I'm not longer a philosophy professor (although I remain a doctor of philosophy in philosophy). Hopefully ubcreports will be able to make the appropriate corrections to the text of the web version of their story.
  • Nicole Bailey, "Applied Ethics Course uses LEGOÒ Robot Sumo WrestlersGRADTidings, Spring, 2000.  (Ignore the stray "Ò"-symbols which litter the html text. Perhaps they have special meaning  to  mac, pc, or unix tribes. The PDF version is more trustworthy.)
